Select Elvish Words: 14.71-14.72 Month (Sindarin)

p>14.71 Month

G. ranoth n. “ranoth”

A word appearing as G. ranoth “month” in the Gnomish Lexicon of the 1910s based on G. Rân “Moon” (GL/64).

Neo-Sindarin: Since similarly formed S. Raun < ✶rānā is still “Moon” in Tolkien’s later iterations of the language, I would retain ᴺS. ranoth “month” for purposes of Neo-Sindarin. This was probably originally a lunar month, but I would assume that like English its use generalized to more modern months that were one twelfth of a year.
